Although many parts of the Gulf Coast shrimp fishery in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi are now closed due to the Deep Horizon oil spill, the Texas Fishery appears to be still full of healthy shrimp. Thanks to few friendly shrimpers down at Hillman’s fishing village in Dickinson, we went out on the Captain BB from Dickinson Bayou and participated in a full day of shrimping on Galveston Bay. We’re in the middle of the bait season, meaning much the shrimp harvest right now is not for human consumption, but starting August 15 Texas bay shrimpers will be allowed an unlimited catch of all types of shrimp through December 1!
